Six women, exiled from their homes in a bid to colonise a new land. A boat. Powerful men, Subjugated women. You can guess what happens next. A journey that takes longer than expected, and weathers more than storms. Navigating life on the ship is a crueller fate than the destination, and the convicts have a choice to make. What happens when women close their legs and open their mouths?
The Ladies of Juliana is a new play, devised and written by the company, set on an 18th century ship that transported female convicts to colonise Australia. Drawing from real historical accounts, we tell the story of six women on an arduous journey to find a new land and life. The play navigates through humour and music, but ultimately tells a moving, heroic and liberating story. Although rooted in history, this play is contemporary in its approach, aiming to resonate with today's audience by delivering a relevant purpose and message. This is not just a women’s issue; this is not a play just for women.

A Special Mention to Ben Francombe
Ben was an invaluable resource to us when making The Ladies of Juliana. Aside from being a
fantastic energy in the room, he took great care in understanding the politic and devices we
wanted to utilise and always guided us in the right direction. His expertise as a dramaturg and
vast knowledge of theatrical work was vital to providing us with new interpretations and
opportunities to explore in the creative process. Ben’s impact on the play cannot be
understated; for more information on his work, follow the link below:
